Simple Diwali lantern

One more festival craft that my daughter did.

Its very simple to make. All you need is few colored tinted  A4 Sheets else your can use A4 printer sheets and make your kids color those.

Take an A4 sheet and turn it into a cylindrical shape  and stick it together at both open ends. This will be the base of lantern.

From A4 sheets cut floral shapes and roll them and stick the loose ends together. Make atleeast 10 such pieces so that it fully covers the cylinder.

Stick these on the cylinder shape.

Now take 2-3 A4 sheets and make long fringes paper strips of 2" width.

Stick these at the bottom of the cylinder. Make sure you stick it in the inside surface.

Take some silver paper and use it to make a border on top and bottom of the cylinder.

Punch two holes on top of cylinder and pass a thread through it.

Your lantern is ready for hanging.

Tea light candle holder

On every festival I try to do some craft activity with my kids that is related to the festival. Last year Diwali we had picked up lots of paper tissues of different patterns.

When I saw the patterns I wanted to make some Diwali craft out of it. So we created these neat looking paper lanterns to keep tea light inside.

This is how they look with tea light inside.

Material used are mountboard to make frame, paper tape to stick the frame together so that it is fold-able. And most important part is printed soft paper tissues.

For frames we used four 6" by 6" mountboard pieces. Leaving a margin of 1 inch from all side I cut a 5 " square from it.

These 5 " pieces were used to make frame for next lantern. Again we left a margin of 1" to cut a 4 " square piece from center.

This was used to make frame for the smallest lantern.

If we use paper tap to join the frame pieces, the lanterns  can be folded after use and stored for next use with out causing any damage.

Here is how these looks when folded.

Try making these with your kids and do let me know your views.

Foam Craft - Sea Animals

As i  mentioned earlier my younger one is fascinated by sea animals . So we did few more using foam sheets.

So we made crabs, sea horse, fish and dolphins.

They did look very pretty after we put wiggly eyes.

Best out of waste - Using Foam

Here is what we did to an old tumbler using foam sheets.

A beautiful penstand ....
I have now introduced my kids to foam craft. We started with simple book marks.

So the elder one made two book marks with day and night theme. The base was textured foam and foam stickers were used to give day and night effect.

and here what the little one made (now a KG student). She loves water animals so obviously her was with that theme. I helped her with cutting the shapes.

Create a Scene using leaves

As part of her school assignment my daughter was asked to collect leaves and create a scene using those.

Initially we struggled for ideas. Than decided to go ahead with first collecting the leaves.

Once the different leaves were with us, ideas just started flowing.

We created a scene with few animals on the backdrop of a nature scenery.

Here is the result.
